Today I’m talking about something I absolutly LOVE! The engagement session! I know it might not seem like a big deal, and when you compare it to the wedding day, it can seem like the last thing you want to worry about. But I’m going to talk a little bit about why the engagement session is way more important than some realize, and I’ve got three reasons to back that claim up! Ready?! Let’s go!

It’s the only practice you get for your wedding photos– You only get one shot at your big day! There is no do over. So being as prepared as possible can only help. Time after time again I have photographed engagement sessions, to see that my couples are 100% more comfortable posing and interacting and just being themselves, because it’s not their first rodeo anymore! They have already spend a chunk of time being photographed as a couple, so now it’s just second nature!

It gets you comfortable with your wedding photographer– I’ve heard of couples having a friend or close relative take their engagement photos. That is totally fine! But I think it is worth noting that having your actual wedding photographer also photograph you prior to the wedding, is invaluable! You will learn their style and how they will interact with you so you’re not blind sighted on the big day by their techniques. Also! Your photographer will get to learn how you two interact! Whether you shine best in quiet moments, or really playful ones! That information will help your photographer work quickly and efficiently on your actual wedding day! Not to mention it will strengthen the relationship you have with your photographer, which will let you open up more to them!

It gives you a chance to commemorate such a unique time in your relationship!– I swear I say this all the time, and here I go again! You are going to be married for the 50+ years, but your engagement is short and will go by so crazy fast! So it is definitely worth preserving this time you will spend engaged together!
