I am not a morning person. I crawl out of bed at the last possible minute. I request that my children refrain from imitating dinosaurs, and opera house singers until I have had my coffee. I drop off my daughter at school in my Pj’s with zero shame. But, when it comes to sunrise sessions, I’m up, ready, and stoked to get rolling! So when this family reached out to have me photograph the moment they told their awesome father that the family would be growing by one more, I could hardly contain myself! We met up at Beartrap Meadow before the sun had peaked over the tree line. The air was cold, but we were bound and determined to make things work! They instructed their father that they would all write down what they were thankful for this year. While playing it off as a photography gimmick everyone shouted “You can’t look at other peoples until we say!” He side eyed us suspiciously. Once everyone had finished writing “Ready… LOOK!” as he read the words “Good Dads turn into Grandads” he was filled with joy from the surprise and grins flooded over everyones faces! I loved sharing such a beautiful moment with this family and while I may not be always be willing to get up before the sun does I will always be at the ready for photographing special moments like these.
