I met Katherine in elementary school. Not by accident though. My mom had planned and thought out the entire thing. She knew Katherine went to the same school, lived only a few blocks away, and by golly she was going to get her awkward daughter a friend if it was the last thing she would do! But I, of course, was mortified. “I can find my own friends, Mom!” (This statement I now see is debatable) My Mom would not give up though. After some very old school phone book stalking, she soon had me on the phone/at her front door “Can Katherine play?” and just like that a completely coordinated meeting started a wonderful friendship with a wonderful person inside and out.

Katherine and her husband Garrett have a relationship that is filled with love! During our session they both stood up after sitting in the grass, and before they worried if they personally were covered in grass, twigs, or dirt, they dusted one another off instead. It’s the little moments like that, that really show that when you find your soul mate, loving one another is just second nature. Together they have such a sweet daughter Stella, who is two, and are also expecting their second daughter at the beginning of next year. I just KNOW Stella is going to rock that big sister role! She loved talking about her baby sister, going on a bear hunt, and giving her Dad tickles.

I really loved getting to see my childhood bestie, meeting her husband, and photographing this beautiful family of soon to be 4. There is something about seeing old friends that just fills you with warmth and puts you right back into the friendships that shaped us as kids, into the people we are today. Thank you so much Katherine and Garrett, for spending your evening with me. You folks were a joy to work with!
